Outpatient clinic. Hair restoration surgery is performed on an outpatient basis in our clinic. Surgery begins at 8:00 a.m, and a typical session lasts 5-6 hours.
Local anesthesia. Some patients experience mild discomfort during the local anesthesia - but it is brief. Gas anesthesia is available for those who choose it. The remainder of the procedure is free of any discomfort.
Dr. Ross harvests the donor strip and repairs the donor site. Then she creates the recipient sites, paying careful attention to the correct pattern and angle of the hair while her staff begins isolating and preparing the grafts.
The staff gently places the grafts into the recipient sites. During this process you are seated comfortably, can enjoy a beverage, and listen to music or watch a video—bring your own or select one from our library. Many patients even go to sleep. We'll feed you an excellent lunch!
When the procedure is over, we'll fit you with a bandage that covers the top of your head. The next morning we'll remove the bandages and check the donor area and the recipient sites, then give you a nice shampoo. (If you're from out of town, you may want to spend the night at the Phoenix Inn nearby.)
A week later you’ll have the stitches removed from the donor area, either in our clinic or by a doctor in your home town.
