1 dead after driver crashes into stopped car on I-84

Man killed was in passenger seat of stopped car

KOIN 6 News Staff - MULTNOMAH CO., Ore. (KOIN) --- One person was killed and 2 people were hospitalized with injuries after a 2-car crash Sunday evening on I-84, deputies said.

Reports of the crash on I-84 eastbound near NE 238th Avenue came in just after 7 p.m., according to the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say cars in the middle lane were stopped due to debris in the roadway. A Chevrolet pickup had a mechanical problem and couldn't restart the car after stopping. A 2012 Dodge Caravan struck the rear of the pickup at freeway speeds.

The passenger in the Chevrolet, 60-year-old Glen Hampton, of Lyle, Washington was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Chevrolet and the driver of the Dodge were hospitalized with serious injuries.
