PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) --- A 16-year-old Roseburg foster boy was arrested on Tuesday for killing his foster mother and 2 siblings, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
Officials said Kevin Wayne Adams was found at the scene in the 400 block of Whispering Pines Way along with the three victims. He admitted that he shot the 3 victims multiple times.
Robert Adams, the foster father of Kevin, contacted deputies around 9 p.m. on Tuesday and reported his son murdered his family. Kevin Adams was arrested without confrontation with deputies.
In an interview with deputies, Robert Adams said that he returned home after just over 2 hours away. When he got back, he heard Kevin Adams telling him to stay outside and call the police. Robert Adams said he then went inside to find 3 dead bodies -- all with gunshot wounds -- and a gun on the bed "which was not where it should be," court documents said.
A friend of Kevin's, who is a senior at Roseburg High School, described Kevin as a "normal kid" and was shocked to hear about the incident.
Through text messages, 17-year-old Matt told KOIN 6 News, "He loved to laugh and tell jokes. He was always friendly to everyone. He was a good kid in my eyes. He had goals in life and he definitely wanted to have a future."
Matt went on to say that he believed "something had to push him over the edge in a pretty big way for him to do this."
Kevin is charged with three counts of aggravated murder and is booked into the Douglas County Juvenile Department. Although he is a minor, Kevin will be tried as an adult.
The circumstances of the incident are the current focus of the investigation, the sheriff's office said.KOIN 6 News Reporter Chris Holmstrom contributed to this report
