Ammon Bundy attorney ordered to appear in court

The case has been assigned to the Honorable John C. Coughenour

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A federal violation notice was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court against the attorney representing Ammon Bundy who struggled with the U.S. Marshals Service after a not guilty verdict was announced in the courtroom.

Marcus Mumford is accused of impeding or disrupting the performance of official duties of government employees.

According to the probable cause statement filed by U.S. Department of Homeland Security Officer Colin Fawcett, Mumford "grew increasingly agitated after learning that his client would not be released due to a U.S. Marshal hold regarding pending out-of-state Federal charges."

The incident happened Oct. 27, 2016 inside the courtroom of Judge Anna J. Brown.

As the Marshals moved to take Bundy out of the courtroom, Mumford positioned his body to block the marshals from taking his client and "began yelling in protest," according to court documents.

Mumford was ordered to lower his voice and stand down, according to the official account provided by DHS. After several attempts, Mumford got "more agitated" and was seen "flailing his arms."

When the deputy marshals attempted to take control of Mumford, he reportedly moved his arm away and was able to break free from the deputy's grasp.

"A brief struggle ensued and [Mumford] was taken into custody," the report states.

Mumford has been ordered to appear in U.S. District Court in Portland on Jan. 6, 2017 at 9 a.m.

The case has been assigned to the Honorable John C. Coughenour who is a federal judge within the Western District of Washington.
