PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man stole a car during a burglary, crashed it, carjacked another car, crashed it and threatened a man at knife point all before 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning, according to police.
The suspect's crime spree ended at Elmer's Restaurant on Southeast Stark Street in Portland.
That's when the carjacker's next would-be victim pulled a gun, police said.
The suspect then dropped his knife and other people chased him down, police said. The group held him until police could get there, according to a Portland Police Bureau news release.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is identifying the suspect as Johnathan Bryan Yager Jones.
The sheriff's office became involved when they received reports of a man -- now identified as Jones -- driving the wrong way on Highway 212 earlier Sunday. The wrong-way car had been stolen in a burglary, reported an hour before, in unincorporated Milwaukie, Ore., the sheriff's office reported.
Jones then pulled into the Hampton Inn on 82nd Drive in Clackamas.
"Witnesses said a male driver crashed the car into a parked car in the parking lot, then ran to an occupied Dodge truck and forcibly pulled the driver out of the truck," the sheriff's office reported. "The male then threatened a female passenger, who was able to exit the vehicle without injury."
Jones took off on Interstate 205 heading north before being involved in "several other hit and runs" near the exit for Stark and Washington streets, according to the sheriff's office.
"The suspect hit two other vehicles as he exited the freeway," police reported, "then got out of the car at Elmer's" where witnesses said he threatened a man in the parking lot with a knife -- and then chased him down.
Police arrived at Elmer's and took the man into custody.
The suspect initially was taken to a Portland hospital for injuries "believed to be the result of his two hit-and-run crashes," PPB reports. He's now booked into the Clackamas County Jail.
