Driver killed, Columbia River HS student injured in crash

CLARK COUNTY, Wash. (KOIN) --- A driver was killed and 2 other people were injured -- including a Columbia River High School student --  in a crash on Tuesday morning just after 10 a.m.

Clark County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Fred Neiman said the female student -- driving a Legacy Subaru --- was pulling out of the high school parking lot on Northwest 99th Street in Hazel Dell when her car was hit by a Volkswagen Jetta.

The Jetta was driven by 86-year-old Marion Klitza and her husband -- 86-year-old Franz Klitza -- was a passenger in the car. They were driving westbound on 99th Street when the Subaru pulled into their path, according to police.

Police said Marion was pronounced dead at the scene.

Franz was transported to a local hospital with possible life-threatening injuries. The 17-year-old student was also taken to a hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials are still investigating the crash and urge drivers to avoid the area.
