Pedestrian critically injured in crash on Hwy 26

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man, who was attempting to cross Highway 26 in Sandy, was hit by a vehicle after midnight on Wednesday, suffering life-threatening injuries, according to Oregon State Troopers. 

Raphael Frederick Caldera, 51, of Warm Springs, was wearing dark clothes at a section of the highway "that is not lit by ambient lighting," according to troopers. He was transported to a local hospital. There are no updates on his current condition. 

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene, troopers said, and is cooperating with the investigation. 

The accident happened at milepost 22 at approximately 12:35 a.m. 

Troopers said this is an ongoing investigation.
