Semi-truck driver hit while chaining up

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) --- A semi-truck driver who was putting chains on his tires was hit by a car on Wednesday morning.

The man was on Highway 26 at Hummingbird Lane when he was hit. The other driver stayed on the scene.

"Thankfully he was going below the speed limit which a lot of people don't do here, which causes a lot of fatal accidents," Thomas Cherry, who witnessed the crash, tells KOIN 6 News.

Witnesses said the man had an injury to his leg. He was taken to the hospital.

"So I came out and saw the gentleman laying by his semi tires," Sara Switzler, who lives nearby, said.

"I'm glad it happened while it was home. I leave for work early in the morning and come home on my lunch time to take my kids to school and I'm glad they weren't out here," Switzler says.
