CLACKAMAS COUNTY, Ore. (KOIN) -- Clackamas County deputies said a man car-jacked a driver at knife-point Sunday afternoon on Sunnyside Road.
The suspect, identified by the sheriff’s office as 33-year-old Ramon Gonzalez, received more of a fight than he intended.
According to a sheriff's office news release, "at about 4 p.m. a motorist driving west on Sunnyside Road just west of Highway 212 came upon a male standing partially in the road. The driver slowed down to go around the man and as he went around, the man leaped into the back seat of the car. The suspect brandished a knife and told the driver to 'empty his pockets.' As they neared the intersection of Sunnyside Road and SE 172nd Avenue the driver defended himself by hitting suspect with a metal thermos."
Deputies said the driver, after hitting the attempted carjacker with the thermos, temporarily trapped the suspect in the back seat with child locks.
The suspect had to crawl out of a window of the car to escape.
Gonzalez was eventually track down by deputies.
"Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies and officers and a canine unit from the Happy Valley Police Department and officers from the Damascus Police Department searched for the suspect for almost an hour," the sheriff's office reports. "...Neighbors on SE Rock Creek Court helped focus the search effort when they reported that a suspicious male was knocking on doors."
The Gresham man was arrested and taken to the Clackamas County Jail on a single count of first-degree Robbery.
