'Targeted' shooting at Le Bistro Montage; man critical

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A shooting either in or near Le Bistro Montage left one person critically wounded in what Portland police described as a targeted shooting.

The shooting erupted around 12:30 a.m. Thursday at the restaurant on SE Morrison Street, police said. When officers arrived they didn't immediately find any victims or suspects, but people inside the restaurant reportedly took shelter in a locked room when they heard the gunfire.

There were about a dozen customers and 8 employees.

During the investigation, a man with a gunshot wound arrived at a hospital. He is said to be in critical condition, but his name has not been released.

It's not clear at this time if the shooting happened inside or outside the restaurant. However, there are surveillance cameras both in and out of the restaurant, so investigators should be able to make a determination.

The general manager of Le Bistro Montage, Tai Faux, wasn't on duty when the shooting happened but got the call overnight.

"No one ever wants to get that call but everyone was OK," Faux said. "In the 25 years we've been here there's never been anything like this. It was an isolated incident."

Investigators spent hours at the scene and the Gang Enforcement Team is also on the case. Witnesses are still being interviewed, so police aren't prepared to provide any suspect information.

Officials said they don't believe there is any danger to the public.

City Liquidators co-owner Pam Pelett has been in business across the street for 40 years.

"I think the increase in gang activity is everywhere and it's sad anybody gets hurt," Pelett said.
