Sleeping grandma stabbed by grandson near Longview

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) --- A 14-year-old boy is accused of stabbing his 59-year-old grandmother in the neck on Monday night.

The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office says Sharon Hesseldahl was stabbed with a large kitchen knife while she was sleeping on the couch in her home west of Longview. Her 55-year-old brother was home at the time and called 911.

Deputies took the 14-year-old into custody. He had previously been arrested for stabbing his mother in Skagit County, Washington.

Hesseldahl was taken into surgery but is in stable condition.

The sheriff's office did not release a possible motive for the stabbing.
