Hillary Clinton talks election, politics now and Moore

Hillary Clinton was in Portland for her book tour promoting 'What Happened'

Andrew Dymburt and KOIN 6 News Staff - PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Hillary Clinton spoke in Portland on Tuesday night as part of her tour promoting "What Happened," her memoir of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Clinton, 70, spoke to a sold out Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall immediately following the announcement that Democrat Doug Jones won the Alabama senate race against Roy Moore.

The waiting crowd broke into applause before Clinton even took the stage as they read the news that Moore, whose campaign has been shrouded in sexual assault allegations, lost the race.

"Honestly you heard it at the exact same time and I could hear all the cheers coming from all of you!" Clinton told the crowd.

She spoke at length about Moore, the state of politics as she sees it and the presidential election.

"This isn't just about what happened, it's about what's happening now," she said.

Clinton explained that her book focuses, in part, around how and why she lost -- including Russian meddling.

"We know that Russian agents used Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube, even Pinterest if you can believe that ..." she said.

She couldn't resist the urge to take a few digs at her former opponent, now President Donald Trump.

"When leaders deny things that we can see with our own eyes, you know like the size of the crowd at an inauguration...." she laughed.

While the crowd inside cheered, a group outside jeered. Protesters from different factions including Patriot Prayer, expressed their disapproval of Clinton.

In 2014, Clinton appeared at the Keller Auditorium to a packed house. At the time, she had not announced whether she would run for president in 2016. She addressed climate change and breaking through the glass ceiling at that event.
