Budding musicians learn in new Happy Valley academy

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. (KOIN) -- Happy Valley just got more musical.

The Happy Valley Arts Academy's new facility has more than doubled the space available to meet the growing demand for musical instruction. There are 10 large practice rooms in the space at 147th and SE Sunnyside Road where kids can learn to play any number of musical instruments.

"We've got over 20 teachers teaching a range of instruments, including piano, guitar, violin, voice and drums," said David Martin, the co-owner of the Happy Valley Arts Academy. "We offer the full range of instruments to over 400 kids."

Martin and his co-owner wife told KOIN 6 News their focus is on teaching. Awards and recognition are what he feels is fueling the academy's success.

He said the Happy Valley Academy is now the largest music school on the east side of the Portland area, and the new facility is likely to keep the sweet sounds of success in the air.
