Judge to drunk driver: 'Time bomb due to alcoholism'

OREGON CITY, Ore. (KOIN) -- A drunk driver who hit 3 construction workers and killed one in May 2017 will spend 14 years in prison.

Fedot Tsopko drove into a well-marked construction zone on SE 122nd Avenue between Sunnyside Road and Mountain Gate in Happy Valley and hit the 3 workers.

Investigators said a flagger tried to stop Tsopko, who was driving a 1990 Lexus 4D. But Tsopko reportedly moved forward, hitting the flagger and driving into the work zone.

Two of the construction workers survived, but 48-year-old Pablo Dominguez-Amezuca died from his injuries.

At his arraignment, Tsopko need the help of a Russian interpreter. But after hearing his charges read during his arraignment, he managed to ask "Did I kill him?" in English.

At his sentencing Friday, the judge told Tsopko, "You were like a time bomb waiting to go off due to alcoholism."
