Men armed with gun, bats invade Oregon City apt

OREGON CITY, Ore. (KOIN) -- Two armed men entered an Oregon City apartment shortly before 4 a.m. Monday and seriously injured one man before taking off in a red car, police told KOIN 6 News.

There were multiple adults, perhaps as many as 6, inside the apartment at 200 S. Longview Way when the invaders came in, police said. One of them was beaten badly and suffered serious facial injuries, police said. He was rushed to OHSU for treatment and is expected to survive.

The victims told police both suspects had baseball bats and one had a gun.

'Heard a ruckus'

Neighbor Karen Seal told KOIN 6 News she "heard a ruckus" around 4 a.m.

"It sounded like somebody was fighting and my bedroom window, you see, is right there," she said. "The dog woke me up and next thing I know there was just a bunch of people up there, cops up there. I didn't see anybody leave, run away."

She said the incident left her scared.

"I do know that they got beat up pretty badly and they took the baseball bat to one of the guy's face," Seal said.

Shannon Clausen, who lives "right next door," said it makes her want to move back to Salem.

"It freaks me out a little bit," she said.

The complex is "pretty quiet most of the time," but she said she's seen "several cops come out here throughout the month, but nothing this bad."

Neighbor Bill Hoffman was also "not happy about it."

"Our places are clean, beautiful, nice. We keep them up. And then we have this garbage that goes on," Hoffman said. "I understand there's some drug dealing over this way."

He said he has a burglar alarm in his apartment and "everybody pretty much takes care of each other here."

Clausen said she's "hoping that it's someone that they know and we're not in danger." She added she'll keep her eyes open and "maybe, possibly get some cameras in my windows."

Detectives are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the Oregon City PD at 503.657.4964.
