Dozens of cars hit in Battle Ground vandalism spree

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Around 30 cars were damaged in a vandalism spree in Battle Ground in the early hours of Friday morning.

Battle Ground city officials said the damaged cars were all over the city, not just in one particular area. A building was also damaged.

One of those cars belongs to Erika Carey, who woke up to the sound of her SUV's window shattering right outside her NE Clark home around 3:40 a.m.

"I'm just thinking 'why, why and who,'" Carey told KOIN 6 News. "Why would you do this to somebody? To people who work really hard for the stuff that they have."

Carey said the damaged was caused by a beer bottle. Her neighbor a few houses down woke up to even more damage, the suspect taking out the entire back window of that car.

Police are hoping someone can help them identify the person or people responsible. On Saturday, police posted a surveillance video of a vehicle they believe may be connected in the vandalism.

"What we're asking is neighbors to look out for each other," Mike Fort with Battle Ground police said. "Look out on your street and if you see neighbors cars that were damaged, if you have surveillance, call us, we want to know that."

Police are asking anyone with surveillance video to check for anything suspicious. Contact Sgt. Kim Armstrong at 360.342.5252 or at kim.armstrong@cityofbg.org if you know anything.

Carey hopes they track someone down sooner rather than later to bring the culprits to justice.

"Karma will get you and I'm  hoping it gets you soon," Carey said. "I hope that you have to work really hard to pay this of."
