Hit-run suspect eludes Vancouver police

VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN) -- A driver suspected in a hit-and-run crash Friday night in Vancouver remains on the loose after backing into a patrol car and fleeing.

An pedestrian was crossing the street at E. 13th and Daniels around 6:15 p.m. when the driver of a 2-door sedan hit the pedestrian, then took off. Witnesses gave police a description of the car, which was found later by a Vancouver police officer. As the officer approached the car, the suspect backed into the officer's car and took off.

Police believe the suspect is 54-year-old Christopher Nichols, who may be driving a maroon 1988 Ford Thunderbird with Washington license plate 927-YZV and front and rear damage. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black hoodie and black sweatpants. He is 5-foot-8 and 280 pounds with grey facial hair. 

There is a felony warrant for his arrest. If you know where he is, call 911.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries but is expected to recover. No officers were injured and the patrol car suffered only minor damage.
