SALEM, Ore. (KOIN) -- A middle school in Salem was placed on a brief lockdown after police say a teenage boy was shot near the school Monday morning.
The Salem Police Department said the injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening and that there is no danger to the public. The victim, who's believed to be 16 years old, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The incident caused Houck Middle School to be placed on lockdown for less than an hour.
Police said they're investigating the shooting and added that they don't believe the shooting happened where the victim was found. Authorities also said the victim was not associated with the middle school.
