GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) -- Sherri Kirk doesn't want her daughter playing outside their home in the Heatherwood Apartments in Gresham. She said it's too hard to explain what she's seeing near their front door.
About a month ago, The King and I "gentlemen's club" opened up in Gresham, and the 24/7 business shares a driveway with the apartment complex and is right next to a school bus stop.
"I've seen girls out there smoking on their break. They're in thigh highs and negligees," Kirk told KOIN 6 News. "It's 80 degrees and they have a coat on, so you know they're hiding the upper portion. And it's just not appropriate."
She isn't the only neighbor incensed about the business.
Patty Olson went to Gresham City hall and complained to the Oregon Massage Therapists Board. While workers need licenses, it turns out places like The King and I don't actually need a license for their "amazing body rubs."
Senate Bill 387 would change that. But it's not the law yet.
Neighbors said they should have been contacted before the business moved right next to their kids' bus stop.
"The sign above the door has the woman's naked torso," Olsen said. "They know what it is and right across is the office and the swimming pool. It's summer. We have kids riding their bikes and playing."
The owner of the business, who would not speak on camera with KOIN 6 News, said the business is not even open yet, despite the signs. She said the business doesn't meet fire code yet and that nothing illegal will happen at her establishment.
