CEDAR COUNTY, Iowa (KOIN) -- One man from Portland was killed and seven others hurt -- including three children -- when the rear tire on their SUV deflated, causing a rollover on I-80 in Iowa.
The Ford Expedition was westbound on I-80 near milemarker 272 in Cedar County, Iowa when the crash happened just before 8:30 a.m. Central Time, the Iowa State Patrol said.
When the rear tire lost pressure, the car went out of control and rolled several times, landing on the guard rail of the inside lanes on the other side of the highway.
Ivon Carina Barajas Orozco, 21, died at the scene, the Iowa State Patrol said.
The driver was 29-year-old Maria Isabel Barajas Ballines of Tigard. The other passengers were Heriberto Barajas Ballines, 28, from Portland; Gracielas Barajas Ballines, 32, from Portland; Maria E. Barajas, 52, from Tigard; Alondra Nieves, 7, from Portland; Jahziel Barajas, 2, from Portland; and Eric Barajas, 3, from Portland.
All were taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
All were wearing their seatbelts, investigators said.
