GRESHAM, Ore. (KOIN) -- Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man outside a Gresham apartment complex Monday night.
The man was found with a gunshot wound, unconscious and not breathing in the 700 block of Northeast 178th Avenue, at the Pine Square Apartments, at about 11 p.m. Law enforcement sources later identified the victim as 37-year-old Makeitho "Tito" De Monz Herring. Gresham Police Chief Craig Junginger told reporters that investigators have not identified a suspect.
When officers arrived, they contacted multiple potential witnesses. Several pieces of evidence were collected. Gresham firefighters responded to the scene after 5 a.m. Tuesday to help forensic teams take pictures.
Lt. Claudio Grandjean, a Gresham police spokesman, reported that details of the shooting remain unclear, although investigators believe that Herring may have known his shooter. The incident does not appear to be gang-related.
Detectives with the East County Major Crimes Team are assisting with the investigation. An autopsy, was scheduled for Tuesday.
In June, Gresham police investigated what they described as a "brazen" shooting less than a quarter-mile from Monday's shooting.
