PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A 33-year-old dishwasher employed by a third party at the Oregon Episcopal School in Beaverton faces federal charges for posting a Craigslist ad seeking sex with underage girls.
Lucas James Gautreaux was arrested by federal agents on May 3 at the downtown Portland Hilton Hotel. He was employed as a dishwasher by Bon Apetit, a food service provider contracted by the school.
On April 15, a Portland detective was alerted to a posting in the "Casual Encounters" section of Craigslist about a man who wanted to have sex with a young girl, federal court documents revealed. A federal agent posed as a fictitious 12-year-old girl's father and connected with the man who posted the ad.
The agent sent several pictures of the fictitious daughter and in return received several pornographic images allegedly sent by Gatreaux.
A surveillance team began following Gautreaux and set up a meeting at the Hilton for the purported sex-and-video encounter.
When he arrived, federal agents arrested him. While he was being read his Miranda rights, he told the agents he had Asperger's Syndrome but understood everything that was being said.
Martin Jones, the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Oregon Episcopal School, told KOIN 6 News they do a background check on all prospective employees. Gautreaux passed his background check.
A spokesperson for Bon Appetit told KOIN 6 News the company cannot comment on employee matters, but did confirm Gautreaux is now a former employee who also passed their background check.
Gautreaux's neighbors in Northeast Portland are stunned by the allegations. One neighbor, Cheryl Rath, is the mother of a 10-year-old.
"I was watching the stuff this morning about the Cleveland the women who were abducted for 10 years and you never know who your neighbors are, and you have to be careful and make yourself aware of what's going on around you," she told KOIN 6 News. "I'm sure he had to have a background check and all that stuff but it doesn't mean that there can't be something you don't know about. Just because you haven't been arrested doesn't mean that there can't be something hiding in the background."
Gautreaux remains in custody in the Multnomah County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
