Tim Becker and KOIN 6 News Staff - AMBOY, Wash. (KOIN) --- A Washington family is looking for answers after someone reportedly tossed rat poison wrapped in garlic bread into their yard, killing one of their beloved dogs.
"It's terrifying," Stephanie Elie told KOIN 6 News on Monday night.
Elie says her 9-year-old son found the poison wrapped in garlic bread with rubber bands along a fence line on their property.
He brought it inside and showed his parents. They didn't believe their dogs had gotten any of the poison-laced bread until one of them, Brigit, started violently seizing.
The family rushed Brigit and her brother Wolfgar to the veterinarian. Unfortunately, it was too late for Brigit.
Wolfgar was prescribed medication that is helping him deal with the poison that killed his sister. He was doing well on Monday night.
Now, the family wants answers.
"Until they catch somebody we have to be on the defensive constantly, with the kids, the dogs, the donkeys, everything," Elie said.
The family already filed a report with Clark County Animal Control, and their next move is to place a call to the local sheriff's office.
