PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A scuffle that erupted at a Southwest Washington courthouse over a 9-year-old’s birthday cake was caught on camera Tuesday.
This happened at the Cowlitz County Hall of Justice.
A woman entered the courthouse with a cake for her daughter. She said she brought it in from the car to keep the dog from eating it.
The woman then left the cake on a table. It wasn’t long before a man, who came in after her, smashed his hand into it.
A deputy asked him to stop, but the man did not. Instead, he lunged at the cake.
Deputies took the man to the ground — and wrestled him into a pair of handcuffs. The man was arrested him on third-degree theft charges. In Washington state, “a person is guilty of theft in the third degree if he or she commits theft of property or services which does not exceed seven hundred fifty dollars in value.”
Theft in the third degree is a misdemeanor charge.
The 47-year-old man died after the car he was driving crossed from the north lanes to the south on I-205 and hit a pick-up truck. His wife -- ScanCouver on Twitter, at first unaware of his death -- tweeted alerts on the crash.
The Portland Trailblazers succeeded in their seventh straight home win Wednesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder -- and clinched Portland's No. 1 spot in the Western Conference.
A 13-year-old runaway from Oregon City is considered endangered and may be with a 40-year-old man. The Twitter and Facebook hashtag #FindSamantha is being used to help get word out on this case.
A new indoor location for the Right 2 Dream Too homeless camp is close to being finalized. "Our urging to Right 2 Dream is take this offer," Portland Mayor Charlie Hales told KOIN 6 News Wednesday.
