NEAR CLATSKANIE, Ore. (KOIN) -- Four people died and 7 more were injured when a Ford pickup pulling a horse trailer and a Honda minivan crashed on US 30 about 14 miles west of Clatskanie, Astoria PD Chief Geoff Spalding told KOIN 6 News.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the crash near Bradley Hill mid-morning Friday.
The Honda minivan with 8 people inside was headed west when the driver tried to turn left onto Clifton Road, the Oregon State Police said. The van turned into the path of a Ford pickup truck towing an empty horse trailer.
Police said an adult -- identified as 45-year-old Yong Gi Kim from Gig Harbor, Washing -- was driving the van, but there were children inside. The family in the van was heading to the beach.
Four people from the minivan died, OSP said. They were later identified as 44-year-old Yun Hee Lee from Gig Harbor; 71-year-old Soon Ja Lim and 39-year-old Jung Hee Lee, both from South Korea; and a boy from Gig Harbor.
Forty-two-year-old Yoon Kyung Lee and a boy from South Korea as well as a girl from Gig Harbor suffered serious injuries and were airlifted to Portland hospitals.
Three people in the pickup were taken by ambulance to a local hospital, officials said. Police identified the driver as 21-year-old Stevie R. Smith from Roy, Washington. Her passengers -- 25-year-old Charlie A. Dockins and a 1-month-old baby -- were also taken the hospital.
US 30 was closed in both directions at milepost 76 but has since reopened.
