Need a ride? New bus $5 to the Columbia Gorge

Round-trip service from the Gateway Transit Center to Columbia Gorge

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) --- ODOT is about to launch its new Columbia Gorge Express bus where you can expect round-trip service from the Gateway Transit Center to the Columbia Gorge for $5.

The bus will make stops at Rooster Rock State Park and Multnomah Falls. ODOT hopes it will relieve severe parking and traffic congestion at Multnomah Falls.

Another option for you is to drive out to Rooster Rock State Park, park for free, and then ride the shuttle at no charge to Multnomah Falls.

The bus service will operate Friday through Sunday from May 27 to September 25. There will be 12 departures a day from the Gateway Transit Center, the first starting at 8:45 a.m.

The final bus of the day will leave Multnomah Falls at 6 p.m. Each bus will have rack space for three bicycles.

The service will operate again in 2017 and is part of a pilot project. ODOT will eventually evaluate the service and see if it makes sense to expand it to Hood River after 2017.

Multnomah Falls has struggled with limited parking for a long time now. Overcrowding has forced the closure of the parking lot a number of times.
