Early morning snow dusts metro area

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) --- An early morning snow shower dusted the metro area on Wednesday.

There was a light accumulation before 4 a.m. at higher elevations, especially along Highway 26 near Sylvan and Washington Park. The snow was mainly melted by 5:30 a.m. but stuck around on some side streets. It was not expected to cause traffic delays on main freeways. 

Some snow was also reported in East Multnomah County, in Gresham and out in Clackamas County near Sandy.

Some schools were closed or delayed:

Washougal Sch. Dist.: Closed

Battle Ground: North schools closed,  2 Hours Late, No AM preschool, AM/PM Buses on snow routes. No skills center buses. 

Corbett Sch. Dist.: Closed 

Woodland Sch. Dist.: 2 Hours Late, AM buses on snow routes 
Oregon Trail Sch. Dist.: Welches and Firwood buses on snow routes. 
Camas Sch. Dist.: 2 Hours Late 
Green Mountain Sch. Dist.: 2 Hours Late, AM buses on snow routes.
Molalla River Sch. Dist.: Snow routes for routes 2 and 7 
Colton Sch. Dist.: AM buses on snow routes 
Hockinson Sch. Dist.: 2 Hours Late, No AM preschool, AM/PM Buses on snow routes 
Castle Rock Sch. Dist.: No bus service to Sutherd, McKee, Woodside, and Beebe roads. 
Silver Falls Sch. Dist.: Buses on snow routes for Silver Crest School, Victor Point School and high school routes 1,3,4 and 7. 
La Center Sch. Dist.: 2 Hours Late, AM buses on snow routes 
Kalama Sch. Dist.: AM buses on snow routes. Normal one hour late start Wednesday. Snow routes for bus 91, bus 218 and bus 219(China Garden Rd only) 
Kelso Sch. Dist.: Bus routes 1, 4, 15, 20, 26 and 29 will run on A.M. snow routes. 
Woodland Sch. Dist.: 2 Hours Late, AM buses on snow routes. 
Mt. Pleasant Sch. Dist.: 2 Hours Late, AM/PM Buses on snow routes. Dismissal at 2:45. 

 

 

Oregon Department of Transportation officials reported that there was at least 2” of new snow on Highway 26 near the ski resorts. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the Cascade Foothills & Mountain Passes, South Washington Cascade foothills and Northern Oregon Cascade foothills until 9 a.m. for 1"-3" of snow. 

KOIN 6 News Chief Meteorologist Natasha Stenbock reported in the foothills north of Camas there was about 1” of snow at the 1,500 foot level. A weather spotter in Hillsboro reported seeing snow mixing in with rain but it was not sticking.
