SAN DIEGO (KOIN 6) — A trip to the bathroom took a turn for the horrifying earlier this week when an employee of a downtown San Diego business found a massive snake waiting inside the toilet.
The woman later told animal services she didn’t notice any snake, only that the water level seemed high. While plunging the toilet, the snake poked its head out and slithered from the bowl — all 5 feet 6 inches of it.
Panicked, the employee shut the door with the Colombian rainbow boa still inside, sealing it with Scotch tape until animal service workers could arrive.
“What we have here is an urban myth come to life, I guess,” Dan DeSousa, department of animal services director for San Diego County, said in an interview posted on the county’s website. DeSousa says he hasn’t seen anything like it in his 25-year career.
DeSousa’s unsure where the snake came from or if it traveled through a San Diego sewer. The snake reportedly bit its handler, though the county made no mention of any injury.
Shedding and slightly underweight, DeSousa says the department now is just hoping its owner will call soon.
