PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland woman has taken ‘playing with Barbies’ to a whole new level.
Socality Barbie wears big glasses, goes hiking, hangs out in coffee shops with friends, eats trendy ice cream, and looks incredibly fashionable without even trying. Hipster Barbie, as she has been dubbed, vows to ‘live authentic’ in the Pacific Northwest.
But what does that mean?
“I created the account to make fun of the people who were using the ‘liveauthentic’ hashtag on Instagram, all their pictures looked alike to me and I couldn’t tell them apart anymore so it just didn’t seem all that authentic,” the account creator told KOIN 6 News.
The creator is a wedding photographer in her 20s, but wants to remain anonymous. She said she created Socality Barbie as a statement.
“It all seems so fake now, I’m trying to use this as a platform or use a Barbie as my way to express that.”
As for the title of the account, Socality Barbie, that is derived from the Socality movement, although the organization said it is not affiliated with the account in anyway.
The woman’s art has shown up everywhere. Wired, Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, even TMZ have done stories on the parody account.
The spoof account has more than 230,000 followers.
