Budget and Financing
First, figure out your budget. Decide how much you can spend on a car, and how you are going to pay for it. Many dealerships offer excellent financing options and fast approval.
Ask if the vehicle has gone through a multi-point inspection and how many points. The more points, the better. You want to know what you are buying, and if the car has undergone a comprehensive inspection, you can have piece-of-mind that everything has been checked out.
Ask about a warranty. Not all dealerships provide a warranty, so it pays to do a little research. Some dealerships provide a lifetime warranty with unlimited miles and allow you to service your vehicle across the country, and even Canada.
Ask the dealership if the vehicle comes with roadside assistance. If trouble should arise, it’s nice having peace of mind that you won’t have to pay for that help to arrive. Some dealers offer free roadside assistance in the U.S. and Canada.
Check out the environment at the dealership. Is it clean? Are the sales people friendly? Ask how they like working for the company. If the dealership is creating a positive environment for their employees, it trickles down to you, the customer.
If you are at a dealership, find out how your salesperson is being compensated. Some dealerships compensate through commission on each sale, and some only have salaried salespeople. With salaried salespeople, they’re generally looking out for you and not the price of the car.
