After years of research and months of costume and set design and rehearsal, a highly-anticipated musical based on a Portland icon is set to open.
“Darcelle: That’s No Lady,” opens Thursday night at Lincoln Hall on the Portland State University Campus. The limited, three-week run features just ten performances. To get tickets click here.
The show, written by Don Horn (who is also set to release a book on Darcelle’s life), is based on Walter Cole, the man who came out of the closet in a tough time to do so and went on to become a world-wide phenomenon as Darcelle.
In this special-episode of the Where We Live podcast, Ken Boddie sits down with Cole and Horn to talk about how Darcelle came to be, the brand new musical and commitment to the Portland community over the past five decades.
