PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Authorities say a 5-year-old boy has died after being hit by a vehicle on a rural property in Marion County.

Marion County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received a 911 call just after 9:20 p.m. on Saturday for the incident on Monitor-McKee Road NE, which had happened during a large gathering.

First responders tried to resuscitate the boy, but he died at the scene. The child’s name has not been released.

Authorities said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with detectives. Investigators don’t believe alcohol played a role in the fatal crash.

The investigation is ongoing.
