PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Wilsonville teenager and her mother sought by Oregon authorities because her mother defied a court order were found in Las Vegas early Thursday.
Kylee Dixon, who needs surgery, and her mother Christina Dixon were located in the Longhorn Casino and Hotel shortly before 8 a.m., the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.
The 13-year-old was taken into protective custody without incident. Agencies in both Nevada and Oregon are working together to determine when she will return to Oregon.
Investigators continue to look into Christina Dixon’s actions and will forward their findings to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office to determine if charges should be filed.
On Wednesday, investigators said they believed the teen and her mother were along the Oregon coast.
Earlier, Kylee was deemed a ward of the state of Oregon. She and her mother were sought by police after the teen didn’t show up for a scheduled surgery on June 6.
Christina Gale Dixon, 35, ignored a court order to bring her daughter to the Department of Human Services.
Investigators won’t get into specifics about the teen’s medical condition. But in recent months her mother has been very vocal on social media about her daughter’s battle with liver cancer.
According to posts from the mother and family members on Facebook, Christina Dixon has been relying on natural medicine to treat her daughter’s cancer, including CBD oil.
“Kylee was allowed to live with her mother while being a ward of the state,” Clackamas County Sgt. Marcus Mendoza told KOIN 6 News earlier in the week.. “Kylee had a surgery scheduled for June 6. DHS was present when that was to occur, but unfortunately Kylee and her mother did not show up.”
The next day, Mendoza said, DHS got a court order to take custody of Kylee.
The Dixons have lived in Wilsonville and most recently in Gresham.
