WASHOUGAL, Wash. (KOIN) — Clark County deputies are investigating a body that was found at a popular park over the weekend.
The person was found at Hathaway Park in Washougal, which is right next to Hathaway Elementary School.
For four decades, Darlene Hatfield has lived near Hathaway Park, so hearing that a body was found there was a shock.
“It is kind of a family neighborhood, usually a lot of people enjoying the park,” Hatfield said. “I imagine that would be a concern to a lot of people close to the school. The school children walk down this street every day.”
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said the body was found Saturday morning but they aren’t releasing any more specific details. Investigators also won’t say how the person died or whether violence played a role.
Concerned neighbors told KOIN 6 News the area has its problems, but they have never had to worry for their safety.
“It’s scary,” neighbor Nolan Boehm said. “Who knows what happened or how they got there.”
“It makes you kind of wonder,” Brian White said. “It has its ups and downs. A lot of drugs, a lot of foot traffic. Otherwise, it’s pretty safe. You don’t hear much about crime going on, like physical crime.”
KOIN 6 News will have more information when it becomes available.
