PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Clark County firefighter recently added her name to the growing list of female fire chiefs in the United States.
Kristan Maurer was picked to be the next chief of Clark County Fire District 6 back in August.
Maurer is a graduate of Battle Ground High School and completed the executive fire officer program through the National Fire Academy.
She started at Clark County Fire District 6 as an entry-level firefighter 20 years ago and has served in nearly every position the district has to offer.
Her husband is also in fire service as an engineer for Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue.
Maurer is taking over the role of fire chief from Chief Jerry Green.
There are only 50 female fire chiefs across the country, including Sara Boone who recently became fire chief of Portland Fire and Rescue.
