PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Blue-green algae blooms have been discovered in Fallen Leaf Lake, according to Clark County Public Health officials.

The blooms near the bank of the lake in Camas make it unsafe for people and their pets to swim in. CCPH advises that residents avoid contact with the water in areas where the floating scum is visible. The algae can be harmful to people, and in some cases deadly to small pets that drink the water.

Health officials have put up cautions signs around Fallen Leaf Lake, and said they will continue to monitor the water for changing conditions.

More information about blue-green algae, as well as all current advisories can be found on the Clark County Public Health’s website.
