PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man posing as a 16-year-old high school student was arrested by Keizer police after an alert mom checked her 12-year-old daughter’s smartphone and found a text message between them.

The mother called police on June 18 about the text. Detectives then used the girl’s phone to get in touch with the man — now identified as Brenton Proulx — and set up a meeting with him at a restaurant.

Proulx agreed to meet who he thought was the 12-year-old, police said. Once he showed up to the restaurant, he was arrested.

Proulx is now in the Marion County Jail and faces charges of luring a minor and encouraging child sex abuse.
