PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A new swimming spot is opening up on Portland’s east side.
Audrey McCall Beach, located near the Hawthorne Bridge, is the product of years of work by the Human Access Project.
The group removed nearly 20 tons of concrete, glass and debris since 2012 and raised money for the lifeguard program. A lifeguard will be there Friday-Sundays 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. until Sept. 1.
This is the second official swimming beach in Portland after Poet’s Beach on the west side.
Audrey McCall was the First Lady of Oregon and an activist, environmentalists and inspiration to her husband, Gov. Tom McCall.
