Homemade cars to race at annual Adult Soapbox Derby

Multnomah County

46 teams will compete to be champion

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Dozens of teams will compete in this year’s Portland Adult Soapbox Derby on Saturday.

Homemade cars — some made for speed, others for visual appeal — will take turns racing down Mount Tabor.

The speedier models top out at nearly 50 mph on a course that’s 7/10 of a mile.

A total of 46 teams will compete in 3 heats and a champion is determined after a final round.

The races on Saturday get underway at 10 a.m.

Food and beer carts will also be at the event.
