PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A man died at the hospital after he was shot near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Prescott Street.
Portland police said officers were dispatched shortly after 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
According to officers, suspect 30-year-old Tyler Wayne Pierce stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Pierce faces charges of manslaughter, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm in public and unlawful possession of a firearm. He’s due in court Thursday.
The involved firearm has been recovered. Officers said they believe Pierce and the victim knew each other.
Neighbor Edward Macomber told KOIN 6 News he heard yelling in the street before the shots rang out.
“Around 2:30, I heard a gunshot and went back to sleep,” Macomber said. “Didn’t really think of it. In my head said, ‘yeah, that’s a shooting.'”
He said he’s lived in the area for about two years and there isn’t too much trouble.
“You get some interesting characters walking around but the neighbors are great,” he said.
