Officer shoots, kills pit bull chasing firefighters

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Portland Police officer shot and killed an “aggressive” pit bull on Sunday who a spokesman said was chasing firefighters that were responding to a trash fire. 

Officers first responded to the fire at 12:02 p.m. in the 11100 block of SE Melania Court. 

Portland police said no firefighters were injured. 

Animal control responded to take custody of the dead dog, according to Portland police. 

It’s not known if the dog was a stray or belonged to someone.
