PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An armed man who police said was involved in a standoff early Monday morning faces domestic violence charges.
Portland police said the incident unfolded at 12:15 a.m. when officers received a call about a man who was armed and having suicidal thoughts in a home in the 14100 block of SE Bush St. Three children and a woman were inside with him.
Officers arrived and used a loudspeaker to try to communicate with the people inside. The woman safely left the house but police decided to bring in the SERT and the Crisis Negotiation Team when the children didn’t come out.
Not long later, the three children also left the house.
The man, 33-year-old Edgar Gutierrez, surrendered to police just before 4:30 a.m. He now faces four counts of menacing (domestic violence), felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.
