PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A suspicious device found in Laurelhurst Park shut down streets on Wednesday evening.

Portland police said a team from the Explosive Disposal Unit was called in to assess the device “out of an abundance of caution.”

Southeast Cesar Chavez Boulevard at Southeast Ankeny Street was closed off and pedestrian traffic was restricted as authorities investigated the situation.

The Portland Police Bureau said around 7 p.m. that the suspicious object was a “novelty device” and streets were reopened.
