The urn was stolen from a storage unit

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A woman whose baby died suffered another blow when a burglar broke into her Gresham storage unit and stole the urn holding her daughter’s ashes.

Gresham police are working to find the urn, which was taken last month from Northwest Self Storage on Highway 26 and Southeast Powell Valley Road.

Denise Douglas said the urn contained the ashes of her baby girl, Jacinda, who was born premature and died shortly after birth.

“I died with her the day she died,” Douglas told KOIN 6 News.

Douglas said she put the pink and gold heart-shaped urn containing Jacinda’s ashes in a box in her storage unit. The box was stolen along with many of Douglas’ possessions.

Douglas said the theft of her baby’s ashes is like losing her all over again.

“My storage unit had my whole life, including my daughter,” she said. “They didn’t just steal what I own in the world, they stole what matters most to me.”

The grieving mother now hopes that whoever broke into her storage unit will understand her situation.

“I didn’t have anywhere else to put her,” Douglas said of her daughter’s urn. “I just really hope they have a heart and bring her back.”
