PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A health advisory has been issued for Cannon Beach due to higher-than-normal levels of fecal bacteria in the ocean waters.
The Oregon Health Authority said Tuesday morning that the fecal bacteria in water samples can cause diarrhea, stomach cramps, skin rashes, upper respiratory infections and other illnesses.
People should avoid direct contact with the water in the area until the advisory is lifted. This advisory especially applies to children and elderly people.
While the advisory is in effect at Cannon Beach, visitors should avoid wading in nearby creeks, pools of water on the beach or in discolored water.
