Woman dramatically rescued from ship off Coos Bay

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 76-year-old woman suffering kidney failure was dramatically rescued from a cruise ship by the US Coast Guard near Coos Bay on Monday.

The woman fell ill while aboard the Grand Princess, the Coast Guard said in a release. A helicopter crew was sent from the North Bend sector and caught up with the Grand Princess about 50 miles southwest of Coos Bay.

The woman was taken to Bay Area Hospital shortly before 1 p.m. Her condition is not available at this time.
