HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) — The ACLU filed a claim on behalf of a Washington County employee who is a US citizen was detained by ICE in September 2017.
Isidro Andrade Tafolla, who has been a county employee for 20 years, was detained by ICE in September 2017 at the courthouse. The ACLU has filed a claim on his behalf against ICE.
“What happened to me at the courthouse is what is happening at the border, at ICE raids, with kids being separated from parents, kids dying in detention centers,” Tafolla said at the gathering Monday.
ACLU officials said the increased ICE activity scared many Latinos away from the US justice system. They also want the Oregon Supreme Court to prevent ICE from operating in and around courthouses. That decision could come anytime.
Videos of courthouse arrests have shown ICE agents using physical force against not only the individuals they’re arresting but family members and bystanders, as well.
