PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A missing Washington County child was found in Oklahoma, but his father has not yet been located by law enforcement.

The child and his father were last seen, possibly in the Hillsboro area, around May 8. Gaige Burnes, 25, is believed to be a transient and had a misdemeanor warrant out for his arrest at the time, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said.

Burnes was charged with 2nd-degree child neglect in March. The warrant for his arrest was issued after he failed to show up for his arraignment the following month.

The Oregon Department of Human Services has a protective custody order for the child and said at that time the child may currently be in an unsafe situation.

DHS officials will travel to Oklahoma to get the child.

Gaige Burnes whereabouts are not known. Anyone with information is asked to call the Washington County Sheriff’s Office at 503.629.0111
