HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) — Some guests at a Hillsboro hotel were evacuated late Saturday night after police opened fire in one of the rooms.
The initial report of suspicious activity at the Extended Stay America on Northeast Eider Court came in around 8:30 p.m. Several officers arrived to assist, but only one fired their gun.
Police said when responding to the call, they tried to talk with a suspect in one of the rooms, and then an officer shot off a round inside.
“During that contact they encountered a subject,” said Sgt. Clint Chrz of the Hillsboro Police Department on Saturday. “One of the Hillsboro officers fired their weapons. Nobody was injured as a result of that, but during the altercation there was an injury and that suspect was taken to a nearby hospital.”
Witnesses said an area around the first floor lobby was taped off. Police said four rooms were impacted, but have not said what exactly they were investigating as “suspicious.”
“We came back this evening and there was some commotion on the first floor,” said hotel guest Roger Ulman. “Something going on and there were police officers responding and from what I understand there was a stolen vehicle involved and the perpetrator tried to check into the hotel here and I think the police arrested him.”
Police have not confirmed this, nor have they said if the suspect was actually injured by a bullet, or by a scuffle, or something else before being taken into custody.
No officers were hurt during Saturday night’s incident.
