PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Three classic cars were destroyed when a barn went up in flames near Gaston Saturday afternoon.

Fire departments had to use water tenders to fight a rural barn fire near Gaston on June 1, 2019. (Forest Grove Fire)

Firefighters from several local departments arrived at the barn on SW Springhill Road and SW Laurelwood Road just after 4:15 p.m. to find the building fully engulfed.

The 4,000 square foot building was in an area with no fire hydrants, so crews had to use water tenders. They were also deterred by downed power lines.

Wind blew embers around, causing a brush fire and smoldering in a sawdust pile nearby.

Eventually, the fire was put out before it could spread to a nearby building with farming equipment inside.

Unfortunately, a 1967 Chevelle, a 1967 El Camino and a 1956 Chevy were destroyed in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but the fire department wants to remind everyone to practice fire safety.
